Surface Preparation

Through our knowledge and expertise in choosing the best surface preparation and coating systems we provide our customers with the best options to extend equipment service life, realize significant maintenance cost reductions, eliminate operational downtime and optimize each customer’s professional appearance.

uhp Water Jetting

Using 40,000 to 55,000 PSI waterjets provide an efficient and environmentally friendly alternative to abrasive blasting in many applications. The high velocity waterjets wash away coatings and many chemical contaminates while preparing the surface to be recoated. Automated vacuum attached equipment eliminates the need for scaffolding and complete containment on vertical and horizontal surfaces. Because waterjetting does not create airborne dust, surface preparation can occur with no effect to other activities. HydroPrep has also developed automated equipment to eliminate the exposure of personnel to harmful chemicals and contamination.

Known for its speed and application in many different and innovative uses, ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) waterjetting technology is quickly becoming the surface preparation industry’s standard for coatings removal.

Explore the benefits of waterjetting

1. Faster – Your total project time is reduced.

  • Waterjets operate at higher pressure.
  • Allows simultaneous completion work, and less mess (welding, inspection, repair, painting)
  • Eliminates time involved with the set-up of containment, clean-up, and disposal of media.

2. Cheaper – Reduces overall project cost.

  • Your overall project duration is shorter, thereby reducing your costs significantly when overhead is considered.
  • Eliminates the costs of media disposal, as well as purchase, storage, and containment media.

3. Better – Provides a cleaner surface to coat, so coatings last longer.

  • Prepared surfaces have a significantly lower level of residual chlorides (salts) which allows better coating adhesion and life.
  • Eliminate the potential of media contamination that can wipe out your profits, such as grit contamination of turbines, compressors and deck equipment — sensitive equipment and equipment

Wet & Dry Abrasive blasting

If you need to create a profile on a substrate, you need a form of abrasive blasting. Abrasive blasting is the operation of forcibly propelling a stream of abrasive material against a surface under high pressure to smooth a rough surface, roughen a smooth surface, shape a surface or remove surface contaminants.
• Vapor blasting should be used if you have a low dust requirement or want to minimize the amount of grit being used.
• These processes enhance productivity and eliminate inefficiencies found with more outdated methods and equipment.

More about abrasive blasting

Our experienced blasters have successfully completed numerous large blasting projects, and are SSPC-C7 trained and certified giving them the knowledge required to get the job done right the first time.

Our abrasive blasting equipment includes numerous blast pots from 600 pound units to 8 ton bulk units capable of running multiple nozzles.

In addition to these we also have vacuum recovery systems for abrasive removal and recovery, Blastrac machines, and environmental control equipment enabling us to control ambient conditions and prevent the need for costly re-blasting of areas completed.

Power and hand tool cleaning

When necessary, power tooling can be used to remove corrosion and provide a surface compatible with the coating requirements. This can take many forms- call us today and we’ll help you find which one is right for you!

More about power and hand tool cleaning

Hand power tools are portable automatic devices used for surface preparation. Our crews are experienced with most powertools and the related SSPC SP-3 standard. There are many different electric or pneumatic power tools that can be selected for various uses – Impact cleaning tools; Rotary cleaning tools; Rotary impact cleaning tools

Tools from these three categories have unique properties and characteristics that allow them to adapt to many different surfaces and uses. Each tool must be selected carefully, to produce the adequate roughness of the substrate. SSPC-SP-3 Power Tool Cleaning, is the specification for the use of these power tools. The standard details the removal of rust scale, mill scale, and loose paint and rust through the use of each type of power tools.
